TE Safety Office 

The members of the TE Safety Office are the Departmental Safety Officer (DSO) and her Deputy (DDSO).

The mission of the Safety Office is:

  • to inform and advise all members of the Department – from collaborators over Section and Group Leaders to the Department Head – on the technical and regulatory aspects of occupational safety;
  • to assess the means necessary for the members of the Department to fulfil their obligations in matters of Safety, including training and information;
  • to propose and monitor the implementation of appropriate measures to ensure the compliance of the Department’s installations, activities and projects with the CERN Safety Rules, International Standards and best practices;
  • to oversee the establishment and updating of Safety Files, and make them available to members of the Department;
  • to review incidents and accidents, propose appropriate measures to prevent them in the future and monitor their implementation;
  • to oversee the organisation of the Safety exercises;
  • to co-ordinate the work of the Department’s other Safety Officers and Safety Support Officers.

Territorial Safety Officer (TSO)

The TSO shall support the Department Head, via the Departmental Safety Officer (DSO), in fulfilling their obligations in matters of Safety for buildings and premises under the responsability of the Department and for which he is appointed.

He shall in particular:

  • keep himself and the DSO concerned informed regarding all aspects of Safety related to the building and premises concerned;
  • keep all those concerned informed regarding all aspects of Safety related to the buildings and premises concerned and affecting equipment or activities hosted therein ;
  • to propose and monitor the implementation of appropriate measures to ensure the compliance of the Department’s installations, activities and projects with the CERN Safety Rules, International Standards and best practices;
  • support the DSO with a view to the implementation of the CERN Safety Objectives related to the building and premises concerned;
  • contribute to the improvement of Safety in the buildings and premises concerned.

Safety Linkperson (SLP)

The SLP is appointed and acts on behalf of the Group Leader (GL) to assist him in fulfilling his obligations in matters of Safety.

To this end, the SLP:

  • keeps himself and the GL informed about the status of Safety in the group's activities and premises;
  • oversee the establishment and updating of Safety documentation under the responsibility of the group;
  • contribute to the improvement of Safety in his group, in particular by supporting the Departmental Safety Officer (DSO) in reviewing Incidents, in defining appropriate measures and in monitoring their implementation;
  • collaborate with his DSO and other Safety Officers and Safety Support Officers of his Department.
