Dosimeter
A Dosimeter is a device that measures ionizing radiation. At CERN there is a dedicated service that prepares and manages dosimeters – the Dosimetry Service.
If you need to work in an radiation area (supervised or controlled area), you need to have one or multiple dosimeters all the time on you and must have the necessary trainings on the CERN learning hub.
To access supervised areas it is necessary to wear the passive dosimeter and have the appropriate safety trainings. This dosimeter (also known as personal dosimeter) measures the effective dose received by the human body through exposure to external ionizing radiation.
To obtain the dosimeter you need:
- A valid contract,
- to successfully pass the safety training for supervised areas and
- go to the dosimetry service located in building 55.
Contractors must have their company passive dosimeter.
